/POISONING, Bee & Wasp stings
Rarely fatal, apart from people who are very sensitive & where rapid {anaphylaxis} can cause sudden death. About 1:200 adults are allergic to insect venom & a 2nd sting (possibly months later) can provoke severe reaction. Very rarely, a swarm attack, with multiple stings (100's), can be fatal. DIAGNOSIS: Sudden sharp pain. Swelling at site of sting with central black spot, or hair like object.


TREATMENT:

remove sting & apply a cold {compress}
if on arm, place in sling
(pain is from the release of {histamine})
if in doubt, seek medical advice

Patient will collapse & be unconscious if extremely sensitive. Call for medical assistance urgently.
